Festival of One Act Plays

This event has been showcasing community talent from all around Victoria for over six decades in its celebration of the one act play. Condensing a drama or a comedy into a one act play challenges actors and directors to present their creative best entertainment. 2025 marks the 67th Festival with theatre companies from all over the state competing for a number of generous awards and prizes

Do you have a flair for drama or comedy? Or perhaps you have a monologue you would like to present before an audience? Then Kyneton’s Festival of One Act Plays is the place to do it. This year's theme is ‘MAGIC!’, and we invite anyone with a flair for the theatrical to submit their entries. Whether you choose to write an original play or you know a published play that fits the theme, whether you are an established playwright or a first-time writer, we want to hear your voice, see your vision and enjoy what you bring to the stage. The only requirement is that your play must make reference to the theme of ‘MAGIC!’, whether as a comedy or a drama depends on your creative vision.

The venue for this event is The Bluestone Theatre in Kyneton. With its stunning architecture it forms the perfect backdrop for a night of drama, laughs, entertainment and engaging performances. For details of the individual play categories and their requirements, please see our entry form.

Kyneton's Festival of One Act Plays is one of the oldest festivals of its kind in Victoria. We are committed to upholding this legacy by bringing the best talent our state has to offer to entertain local audiences. The Festival will take place on the first weekend of September, with performances on Saturday afternoon and evening (6 September). Exact session times will be advertised closer to the date.
