The house and garden at The Pines occupy 4 acres of the total property. The house garden includes a parterre, rose gardens and herbaceous borders. Outside the house garden can be found a number of garden areas with a variety of features including open parkland, a shaded woodland garden, dry garden and pollinator-attracting grasses and produce areas.

Spring Hill Nursery and Garden features an outstanding retail nursery, cafe with cosy fire, giftware and pots, and a 30-year-old established garden through which to stroll and find your inspiration for cool climate planting.

Enter the three acre garden, via agapanthus-lined driveway. Manicured lawns and water features. Fairy garden, witches cottage with life-size witch, also large rose garden and many other features.

The Artful Meadow is a cool climate garden and nursery with a focus on a naturalistic style of planting. It is 'meadow' inspired, but artful in the sense of being designed and full of art. Our plantings also have a focus on encouraging biodiversity and food resilience. There is a large spring meadow, and woodland, with many bulbs and early perennials. This is followed by a separate, prairie styled, summer garden.

In addition we are offering a pick your own flower bouquet with daffodils,  spring bulbs and flowers to create your own unique display. 

Margot and James McDonald bring different passions to garden-making: Margot has a keen enthusiasm for unusual plants, while James has an affinity for the broader landscape. With no single set style, their country-sized garden in Lauriston, Central Victoria, named Hazelmere, is an impressive blend of native and non-native plants, primarily set among rock-walled terraces and along a sweeping gravel drive. It’s a bold space featuring rare, hardy and occasionally quirky plants — from succulents and shrubs to clipped forms, ornamental grasses and unusual species suited to the region’s challenging conditions. 

Friends of Kyneton Botanic Gardens group will sell plants and special gardening books.

A long driveway lined with red oaks and naturalized daffodils. About 10 acres of trees and shrubs have been planted in the last 40 years.  Some century old cedars and oaks including a magnificent cork oak.  A conifer collection includes unusual Abies and Picea, avenues of dwarf Alberta Spruce, Roman Cyprus, and a topiary section. About 80 rare and unusual Quercus species.
Recommend sturdy footwear. Friendly dogs welcome.

The owners previously participated in Open Gardens through their steep Scotsman’s Hill property in Wedge Street. Their new garden is lower down Wedge on a sizeable but flatter corner block.
Very old liquid amber and apple trees remain from earlier days in the original 1880’s house‘s history. While trees and lawns surround the front of the house, 3 private garden areas also exist.

Behind a bay hedge at the side of the house lies a sunken garden comprising varied pots and an espaliered Altissimo.
Beyond, up bluestone steps lies a shady pergola overlooking a lawn and deep flower beds, primarily stocked with perennial plants.
A further private courtyard and covered area is located along one side of the house.

The management has generously agreed to open for this year’s festival.   Due to privacy and the expansive size of the property, the only way to see Rock House is through a guided tour lasting 90 minutes. Guests will be picked up from, and returned to, Kyneton Railway station.
