Throughout the festival, you’re invited to explore a variety of stunning gardens that will captivate your senses and leave you inspired- with generous locals opening their beautiful gardens for you to explore. 

Open Garden Tours are running on the 1st and 8th of September, each visiting four gardens around Kyneton.

Willowbrook

Address: 290 Redesdale Road, Kyneton

Enter the three-acre garden through an agapanthus-lined driveway.
Explore manicured lawns, enchanting water features, a Fairy Garden, Witches Cottage with a life-size witch, and a beautiful Rose Garden, among other captivating features.

Pam Leaver has cultivated an interesting collection of trees, shrubs, and perennials in this large town garden. Meandering pathways lead you to a charming veggie garden and a picturesque view of Mt Macedon and the Campaspe River.

Bupa Kyneton

Bupa Kyneton was established in 2010. The home has beautiful established gardens with a variety of shrubs, roses, and daffodils. Come and view what it possible to achieve in a relatively short amount of time in the Macedon Ranges’ climate. Residents will have wood working displays to view and will have an arts and crafts display to view and purchase.

Internal courtyards can be viewed but a COVID RA Test is required to enter our home’s internal areas to protect our residents. COVID RA Tests provided.

Hedgerow Cottage

A gorgeous garden set in the grounds of 1880s “Hedgerow Cottage” on the site of Kyneton’s first police station and featuring box balls and hedges, scores of different bulbs, clematis, camellias, roses, hydrangeas, magnolias, aquilegias, foxgloves, hellebores, many grasses, shrubs, and numerous trees including olives, pear, pomegranate, medlar and a giant ash.

Kyneton Botanic Gardens

One of the finest Botanic Gardens in Victoria’s goldfields dating back to 1858.

 Magnificent specimen trees 17 National Trust listed, garden beds, lawns & picnic areas, in the curve of the Campaspe River. 

Now includes Kyneton Community Park – a world class play and recreational space within the heart of Kyneton’s Botanic Gardens.

Rosebery Hill

Address: Pastoria Road, Pipers Creek

A long driveway lined with red oaks and naturalized daffodils. About 10 acres of trees and shrubs planted in the last 40 years. Some century old cedars and oaks including a magnificent cork oak. A conifer collection includes unusual Abies and Picea, avenues of dwarf Alberta Spruce, Roman Cyprus and a topiary section. About 80 rare and unusual Quercus species.

Recommend sturdy footwear. Friendly dogs welcome.

Malmsbury Botanic Gardens 

Address: Old calder highway, Malmsbury

Established in the 1850’s the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens is central to Malmsbury off the Calder highway on the way from Melbourne to Bendigo. It is one of  Victoria’s earliest regional botanic gardens encompassing a wonderful collection of trees and shrubs along with a few surprises from its rich past.

On the banks of the Coliban River, heritage gardens, mature trees, lake and fountain. View the magnificent 1860 Malmsbury Viaduct.

 

 

Rosebank

Rosebank is 11 years old with a variety of daffodils and other bulbs. There are fruit trees, many shrubs, vegetable gardens, chickens and an aviary with canaries.

Springhill Nursery 

Address: 1 Trentham Road (Cnr of Spring Hill Road), Tylden

Spring Hill Nursery and Garden features an outstanding retail nursery, cafe with a cosy fire, giftware and pots, and a 30-year-old established garden through which to stroll and find your inspiration for cool climate planting.

The Daffodil Patch

A collection of over 10,000 daffodil bulbs, set on a gentle slope showing a wide range of flowers. This should be of interest to garden visitors and daffodil specialists showing a wide variety of blooms.

The Old Rectory is Kyneton’s oldest home, commissioned by the Church of England in 1850. The Old Rectory is listed by the National Trust and the garden has featured on ABC television’s “Dream Gardens” and Channel Nine’s “Postcards”. The garden was re-landscaped in the mid 1990’s with its current design incorporating some earlier features (a 150 year old walnut tree and the external boundary hedges) and new internal hedging and planting.
